1975 and the beginnings in Lyon, France
On the occasion of International Whore Day on June 2, Kaufmich, the largest community for sex workers and customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, asked escorts about their three current biggest concerns. All respondents agreed on the top 3 current concerns and gave cogent reasons for them.
International whore day is celebrated
- Stigma and legal restrictions: Respondents expressed concerns about the social stigma of sex work and the impact of legal restrictions. They worry about their rights, the acceptability of their work, and the potential impact of new regulatory frameworks.
- Safety and violence: the vast majority of escorts expressed concern about assault, kidnapping, rape, violent clients, and general safety risks while performing their jobs.
“This is precisely why it is so important to work with policymakers to optimize working conditions for sex workers and, for example, to enable customer screening, as we do with various features, and thus create a safer working environment,” explains a Kaufmich spokeswoman.
- Client decline and financial problems: Many sex workers are concerned about the decline in clients due to inflation and economic difficulties. They fear financial problems in everyday life and lower income.
A day of action against unequal working conditions
International Whore Day on June 2 acts as a day of action to draw attention to the unequal working conditions and problems of sex workers. International Whore Day dates back to June 2, 1975, when over 100 prostitutes occupied the Saint-Nizier church in Lyon to draw attention to their situation.

Kaufmich is the place to go for escorts and helps them organize their daily work, exchange information with the community and find new clients.
The portal supports sex workers every day to work independently, authenticity and safety. This is ensured by functions such as the Date Manager, a rating system, and a safer sex badge with which sex workers can highlight their safer sex offerings.
Editor’s note: In both cases, sex workers and clients refer to all genders. But we don’t gender.
