Arrest of young women for “pornography”.
In West Jakarta, police have arrested and publicly paraded two young Indonesian women for taking nude pictures on a video camera. They were charged with “pornography” and now face serious consequences. Indonesia has very strict laws regarding pornography and sexual content on the Internet, and the government has taken increasingly tough measures in recent years to prevent the spread of such content online.
Indonesian police take rigorous action against
The Indonesian police have a special department called “Cyber Patrol” that regularly monitors the Internet for local pornographic content. This department is also responsible for fighting cybercrime, including fraud and hacking.
In this case, the Cyber Patrol monitored a camming platform and caught the two women dancing naked in various streams. Police seized 14 items as evidence, including the clothes they were wearing during the livestream, a phone, a book and pornographic screenshots. This evidence was used to arrest and charge the women.
In addition to the two women, police also arrested a man accused of managing them. The man is looking for eight more of his “horsies” who may also be involved in pornographic activity.
The penalties for distributing pornographic content on the Internet are very high in Indonesia. The Law on Information and Electronic Commerce (UU ITE) provides for a maximum penalty of six years in prison or a fine of IDR 1 billion (US$65,962) for producers of erotic content. The law is very strictly enforced by the government and applies to anyone involved in the production, distribution or display of pornographic material.
Strict regulation of sexual content on the Internet
This is not the first time that Indonesian police have cracked down on pornography and sexual content on the Internet. Last month, a popular 22-year-old influencer and cosplayer was arrested for a NSFW live feed on Instagram. She had performed the obscene act on social media to receive gifts and tips.
In Indonesia, there are numerous examples of strict regulation of sexual content on the Internet. In 2018, the government imposed a ban on access to pornography on all public Wi-Fi networks. The same year also saw the introduction of a ban on LGBT content on public television channels. These measures are controversial and are seen by some as restricting freedom of expression and sexual freedom.
