Balearic island as pornography hotspot
An alarming trend is emerging: nine out of ten young people on the Balearic Islands watch pornographic films, as a recent study by sociologist Lluís Ballester of the Balearic University reveals. The study by Lluís Ballester shows that almost all young people in the Balearic Islands consume pornographic material on the Internet. At the same time, about one-third of respondents watch up to four to five hours of porn every day. What is particularly worrying is that more and more young people prefer hard content that shows violence and brutality. Overall, 76 percent of teens prefer pornography with violent components. Such an extreme preference can have an impact on youth development and society, according to Ballester.
The causes of porn consumption are diverse and range from curiosity to the feeling of having to act “right”. It turns out that teenagers not only watch porn alone, but also share it with each other. It is noteworthy that while many youth are aware of the negative effects of consumption, they continue to access hard content.
Responsibility of parents and society
Particularly troubling is that only about 25 percent of parents know that their child has ever watched porn. Young people’s curiosity about sexuality is not sufficiently satiated by parents and teachers. It’s often not talked about or talked about at a level that doesn’t reach young people.
