Artificial intelligence in the porn industry

Porn has been one of the most popular movie categories for decades. This is especially true for online streams. The almost unrestricted access to the Internet as well as today’s state of the art technology open up completely new possibilities. This is especially true for the production of different content. However, the aid of artificial intelligence also enables the creation of so-called deepfake porn with unsuspecting actors in the leading roles.

What is Deepfake Porn?

Deepfake porn is not a regular porn production. The term comes from English and describes a computer-assisted counterfeit. Here, the actors of an already existing porn movie are exchanged with the help of certain apps. Artificial intelligence plays a particularly important role in this case.

In the process, the AI software analyzes the sequences of the pornographic film as well as the movements of the selected person. These are then converted into a three-dimensional form. This creates a deceptively real porn movie with completely clueless actors.

How dangerous is Deepfake porn?

The first artificially edited porn was created with faces of celebrities. However, the technology also enables the distribution of so-called revenge porn. Most often, hurt people create this kind of pornography to take revenge for painful rejections. In many cases, this is the former partner.

Clear evidence of deepfake porn movie

Most fake porn has clearly visible weaknesses. While the possibilities of artificial intelligence seem limitless, it still has small gaps. Fake porn films therefore often lack a logical plot line. This mainly concerns the dialogues and the content of the film. Another way to expose a fake porn movie is to closely monitor its technical implementation.

To the films

This area usually hides vast amounts of errors. Blurred edges, for example, are a clear sign of deepfakes. Deviating colors also indicate a forgery. In the hair area, these weaknesses are often particularly visible. The illumination and the resolution also provide further information. However, an exceedingly clear sign of deepfake porn is the lack of blinking on the part of the performers. If this reflex is not visible or only very rarely visible, the authenticity of the film is also almost ruled out.

The distribution of pornographic content is bound by numerous legal requirements. The performers must be of legal age and agree to the publication. This is especially true for the input of faces with the help of AI software. Failure to obtain the consent of the persons concerned constitutes a criminal offense. After all, this is the right to one’s own image.

The misuse of images is regulated by law as a violation of personal rights. In countries like South Korea, China, the distribution of Deepfake porn is completely prohibited. This also applies to some states in the USA. Violation of the law results in severe penalties in these countries. Prison sentences of several years and high claims for damages are not uncommon.

There are tons of deepfake porn in the vastness of the Internet. For the most part, these are created without the consent of the persons concerned. However, many films are already easily recognizable by small technical inconsistencies.
