Challenges of working as a prostitute
by Sandra Haferkamp (34), Hamburg streetwalker
Working as a prostitute is a taboo subject for many people. It is often considered immoral and scandalous. But for many of us, it’s a necessity to make ends meet. In this article, I would like to describe what sex work feels like from my perspective as a prostitute.
One of the hardest things about sex work is the stigma. Society often views us as inferior and guilty, and this can affect our self-esteem. There are many prejudices and misconceptions about the reasons why we choose this profession of street whores, and often we are considered victims who have no other choice. But this is not always true.
The stigmatization of sex work
Many of us choose this profession for a variety of reasons. For some, it’s a financial necessity. Maybe we’re having trouble finding another job, or we just need more money to pay our bills. For others, it is a conscious decision because they are attracted to working in this field or because they believe it allows them to live out their sexuality and independence.
Regardless of the reasons that lead us into sex work, there are some challenges that we all face. One of them is the separation between work and private life. When we meet our customers, we have to step into a role and do our best to satisfy them. We must strive to connect and understand their needs. But once the work is over, we have to break away from that role and find our own life again.
It can be difficult to maintain this separation, and sometimes this leads us to become alienated from our own feelings and needs. We can feel taken advantage of or alone and sometimes even feel like we are losing our own sexuality.
Another problem that many of us experience is the risk of violence and exploitation. There are many people who want to take advantage of our vulnerability and financial hardship to exploit or manipulate us. We must always be aware of who we are and what our limits are in order to protect ourselves from such situations.
Positive aspects of sex work
Despite all these challenges, there are also positive aspects to sex work. On the one hand, there is the financial freedom and independence that we can gain as a result. Many of us can use it to support our families or finance our education.
There is also the freedom to live out our sexuality and have new experiences. We have the opportunity to meet different types of people and experience new perspectives, immerse ourselves in the world of others and discover new things especially in the escort sector.
As I mentioned earlier, working as a whore is physically demanding. Standing for hours in high heels, long workdays without breaks, and unpredictable customers can be stressful. But there are also psychological challenges that come with the job.

It is important to set boundaries and respect them. Many customers have different preferences and fantasies, which do not always coincide with their own ideas. As a prostitute, you have to learn to respect these boundaries and also to be able to say no when something is not right. This can be difficult when you are under pressure to make money or to avoid a bad review.
Another challenge can be maintaining a separation between work and personal life. It is important to draw a clear line between the two to avoid emotional strain and burnout. Many hookers also have to deal with stigma and prejudice that comes with the job. It can be difficult to keep friends and family informed about the job or to get support.
However, there are also positive aspects of working as a prostitute. Many women find it liberating to live out their sexuality and come to terms with their own physicality. There can also be a sense of control and self-determination as you decide which clients to accept and which sexual acts to perform.
Another advantage can be financial independence. Many prostitutes earn a higher salary than in other professions and can thus afford a better life. This can also allow more freedom and independence in everyday life.
In summary, working as a prostitute has both positive and negative aspects. It is important to be aware of the challenges and set boundaries to make work safe and healthy. At the same time, prostitutes’ voices should be heard and respected to combat stigma and discrimination.
